Clifford Hurley Stamper, Jr. age 75, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.
Clifford was born on August 29, 1950, in Smyth County, VA, to the late Clifford Stamper, Sr. and Thelma Fern Blevins Stamper. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Clifford went on to build a distinguished career at the SWVA Mental Health Institute in Marion, where he dedicated more than 30 years of service. He was a man who never liked to sit still, often found tending to the farm, hunting, fishing, or enjoying a round of golf. Above all, Clifford cherished his family and made sure they always felt his love. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Marcia Lynn Stamper; daughter Angela McGhee; grandchildren Victoria Brown, Matthew McGhee, and Tyler Shortt; brother David Larry Stamper & wife Deborah; sister Sharon Armstrong & husband Michael; great grandchildren Isiah & Scarlett “Heihei” Brown; sister-in-law Sandra Brooks and her daughter Teresa; and other loving family and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30PM, Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Fairwood Cemetery in Troutdale with Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will have a private visitation on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com.
