It is with great sadness I hear of the passing of my colleague Clive Archer, the outstanding specialist of North European international security. Professor Archer was unique in his knowledge and insight, exacting in the standards he set and the performance he demanded. What he offered us, his Nordic colleagues, was an unparallelled outside perspective on Nordic affairs. He contributed his insights not only through his own authorship, but through his co-authorship of books and articles...

As my PhD supervisor and mentor, Clive played a significant part in the path I took, both academically and personally. He opened doors for me, and most of my fondest memories form my time as a young researcher have him at the core. He provided support, comfort, guidance, leadership, critique and opportunity.
I had the pleasure of taking the phone call from the Norwegian Embassy in London, informing him of his award from the Norwegian government, as mentioned in the obituary. I remember...

I was saddened to hear of Professor Clive's passing recently. He was an extraordinary person, with fine qualities, erudite, and he worked tirelessly and was a good friend to all. He was of an incredible and positive influence and had a zest for life off the field of academic research interests too. There is no doubt that there are many in the community...
