On Thursday morning, July 3, 2025, God whispered and said “You have completed your assigned tasks and now it is time to take your rest” to Clyde Thomas Clark, Sr.
Clyde was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on April 3, 1943, to the late Lloyd O. and Allie Bradley Clark. He was raised on Seminary Hill in Lynchburg, surrounded by a loving family and close friends. Clyde graduated from Dunbar High School in 1961 and continued his education at Saint Paul’s College, graduating in 1966.
After college, Clyde returned to Lynchburg and began his career in education at Sandusky Middle School. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Lynchburg College (now the University of Lynchburg). Clyde served in various roles throughout the Lynchburg Public Schools system for over 30 years, culminating in his retirement as Director of Student Services.
On June 17, 1966, Clyde married the love of his life, Marjorie M. Montgomery. Their union of over 50 years was filled with love and partnership until her passing in December 2017.
Clyde accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church – South Lynchburg, where he served faithfully in numerous leadership roles.
A leader in both education and the broader community, Clyde dedicated his time and talents to many organizations, including the Lynchburg Voters League, Central Virginia Community College Advisory Board, Horizons Behavioral Health, the Boys and Girls Club of Lynchburg, the Lynchburg Chapter of the NAACP (where he was a life member), Lynchburg Democratic Party and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Allie Bradley Clark; a special uncle and aunt, Roy and Thelma Christian; and his siblings: William, Harry, Charles, Mary, Lloyd and George.
He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Clyde T. Clark, Jr. (Michelle) of Chesapeake, VA, and Dexter Montgomery, Sr. (Pamela) of Woodbridge, VA; three grandchildren: Dexter Montgomery, Jr., Allison E. Clark, and Clyde T. Clark, III; asister, Martha Featherston of Lynchburg; sisters-in-law BydesterHall (James) of Ridgeway, SC, and Celester Montgomery of Boston, MA; a brother-in-law, Laurie Montgomery of Columbia, SC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
Clyde will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his commitment to education, and his lifelong service to family, church, and community.
A celebration of life will be held 11am on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Snidow Chapel, Lynchburg College. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at Snidow Chapel. The family is receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
