I just learned of Clyde's death from someone in Little Switzerland. Several years ago I talked to him after church in Western NC, and he let me put four of his world series rings on my fingers. That's was a real highlight. Such a nice person. We had a mutual friend in common.

Dear King Family,

I am so sorry for your loss.

My father, LeRoy Pfund, was a teammate of Clyde at Brooklyn in 1945. I have heard Dad speak highly of Clyde down through the years, and I was fortunate to interact with him on several occasions.
We were privileged to meet the family on our trip to SF in 1969, A couple years earlier, Clyde and Hal Smith allowed me to throw in the Cubs bullpen in Chicago, when they both were Pirate coaches. In 1982, Clyde got tickets for...
