Colleen Genzer Obituary

Genzer

Colleen Stewart Genzer (Age 67)

Colleen Stewart Genzer of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 67. She fought valiantly against multiple myeloma and kidney failure until the end. She was born to Jack and Elsie Stewart (who predeceased her) in Wisconsin. Colleen grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She remained a Green Bay Packers fan all her life. She taught for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer on the Island of Yap, in Micronesia, where she met her husband, Jeff. In 1980, Colleen and Jeff settled in Maryland. Colleen worked at the law firm of Kass and Skalet for several years then left to raise her four wonderful children. She is survived by her husband (Jeff) of 41 years; her daughters Sarah and Melissa; and sons Ben (Lizzie) and Mark (Kara). She has three loving grandchildren, Charlotte, Isabelle and Louis. She is also survived by her seven siblings, Dan (Diane), Patty (Ron), Bill (Amy), Bob (Julie), Jackie (Tim), Chris (Jeanne), Andy and many loving nieces and nephews.

Colleen will be fondly remembered forever as the rock of the family, a loving wife and parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt and friend. She was the consummate organizer and planned all family and friends' activities and travel for decades. She was taken from us far too soon.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, a memorial service will begin at 12 p.m. noon, with visitation to be held starting at 10 a.m. at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home (11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904). A luncheon will follow the memorial service.

Donations can be made in Colleen's honor to the Cudahy Family Library Endowment Fund in Colleen's hometown of Cudahy, Wisconsin at: https://countycat.mcfls.org/screens/donate.html

Colleen and Jeff were 2nd Year Peace Corps Volunteers living in the same district during my first year of service. She and I, also taught at the same village school. They helped in guiding me through that lonely and sometimes difficult first year.

Our connection continued after our return to the US and my being stationed in DC for multiple assignments.

Memories of her are entwined throughout several major parts of my life.

We have so many wonderful memories of Colleen since first meeting her in 1982, from so many annual outings to Baughers for Halloween and Thanksgiving pumpkins, to birthday dinners, to annual Cape May "happy place" weeks, to Seders, to going to look at Christmas lights, and to countless other get-togethers. Colleen was a dear friend to both of us whom we loved dearly and will miss immensely. She was full of joy, love, kindness, easy laughter, and a generous spirit that embraced us and so many as part of her extended family. We will always be grateful to have had Colleen as a close friend. Family was always so important to Colleen - and making special memories for family was something she did so well. Colleen was a gift we will always treasure and remember with so much love. To the entire family, and especially Jeff, Sarah, Melissa, Ben & Lizzie and Mark & Kara, our deepest sympathies and all our love, Carol and Jack
