Not sure what to say?

I remember him as Butch Spannaus from Hutchinson, MN. My dad and his stepfather, Carl Thompson, were friends. Butch was my counselor when I was a 10 year-old camper at Camp Easton in Ely, MN. His brother, Walt, was our swimming instructor. Had lunch with him at the Pentagon c1979, when I was a Navy LCDR in the Officer of the Chief of Naval Operations..Fond memories.

Col Spannaus was my operations officer in the 22nd TFS at Bitburg AB, Germany in the early 1970´s! Always respected his leadership! Here is a nickel on the grass! - Dorsey Price aka Skypig

Col Spannaus was ops for the 53TFS and I had the privilege of serving under him and flying with him.. He set the standard for officers and fighter pilots. He was the best of the best.

A great Squadron Commander of the Big 22 at Bitburg Germany!

Harry was an ops officer in the 53TFS. I have flown with him and also watched him pull chocks in the the quick check area when he was doing a tour in maintenance. At the top of all officers i new in 27 years in the AF. He and Mary were a world beating team. I say prayers I flew, knew and worked them. My sincere condolences and a nickel on the grass for Harry the Horse! Steve Mosier, 53TFS1969-73 PS-- will never forget how he got an autovon line for a friend needing to call home--FLASH...
