JOHNSON, Concha Conchita Aunon Johnson beloved widow of Lieutenant Colonel Luther Elman Johnson entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, July 2, 2007 at St. Joseph Haven in Arlington, Texas, she formerly resided in Charleston. Chita was born October 9, 1906 in Ronda, Spain. She came to the United States via of Ellis Island in 1910 with her mother and sister while one sister stayed in Spain. They settled in Organ, New Mexico. She was raised by her Aunt due to her mother's untimely death during child birth. In 1926 Chita graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in liberal arts . She taught Spanish for several years in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In 1941 she married Luther Elman Johnson an Electrical Engineer and Professor at New Mexico A and M. Soon thereafter Luther joined the United States Army . They had five children and the Army moved them to many stations including West Point, Japan, The Pentagon and Europe. After Luther retired the family arrived in Charleston in 1961. They both embarked in new careers as teachers, Luther at The Citadel and Concha at Garrett North Charleston , and College Prep High Schools and many substitute teacher assignments. She not only lived a very long life but a very busy one. Always on the go driving about with a mission. Chita was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph Catholic Churches where she was a daily lector reading the Epistle. Luther took ill in 1985 and she dropped everything to give him loving hospice care to the very end of his life. She was a devoted wife to Johnny and adored him until the end. In 1998 Chita went to live in Ft. Worth, Texas to be near her daughter and her family. She lived in an assisted living environment while her Alzheimer worsened she peacefully passed away at the home with Connie and her friends at her side on July 2, 2007. Chita was a enthusiastic, vivacious person who was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. To her life was just a "Bowl of Cherries" with just a few pits thrown in. Her lilting laughter and strong character will never be forgotten by her family and many friends all of whom she touched with love. Now at last she is in the hands of her beloved Lord, resting in the tranquility of his care along with Luther. But, until we see her again, we will deeply miss her. The fun things she enjoyed were bridge , playing and teaching the piano to children. She always loved the people of her homeland Spain and was proud of her Spanish decent and she would gladly tell you so. She never met a stranger and was always quick to strike up a conversation . She loved to cook and bake, which she would share with the neighbors. Chita was generous to the poor and made many charitable contributions to help the disadvantage. She dearly loved her 12 grandchildren and they brought out the best in her. Her grandchildren's success was of the utmost importance to her. Chita "Mom" will be remembered fondly and with great pride and her absence will create a void which can only be filled by emulating the way she lived her life. She was all about her love of God and her family, the Catholic Church and the community and her love of America. She is survived by five children, Connie Beatrice Stallworth of Ft. Worth, TX, James Aunon Johnson of Brookfield, MO, George Patrick Johnson of Ft. Walton, FL, Michael Elman Johnson of Moncks Corner, SC, John Daniel Johnson of Mt.
