Carney Funeral Home & Cremation Service Obituary

New Iberia, LA----- A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Connie “Koolaid” Melton, 67, will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, 321 Center St. New Iberia, LA. Dr. Allen Randle, Sr., pastor. Pastor Trent Davis will officiate the service.


He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in New Iberia, LA.


Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM at the church on Saturday until the time of service.


Connie affectionately called “Koolaid” was born on Saturday, November 5, 1955 to the union of the late James Melton and Marjarie Berard Melton (Stackhouse) in Gueydan, LA. He was a truck driver for many years.  He went on to be a driver for A&L Adult Daycare. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2 by Rev. Joseph Clay.


In addition to his parent, he was also preceded in death by his step-father (who reared him) Bernie Stackhouse; five siblings, Clifton Snow, Robert Hill, Ronnie Melton, Doris Melton and Roxanna Melton; and three grandchildren, Dereon Fault, Olivia Melton and Myla Morrison; and her father and mother-in-law, Holland Johnson and Eula Mae Kelly. Koolaid peacefully passed away on Monday April 17, 2023 in New Iberia, LA surrounded with his family.


Connie James Melton leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Emily Johnson-Melton of New Iberia, LA; his four children, Thillman (Jackeline) Melton of Houston, TX, Rhea (Nick) Morrison of Lafayette, LA, Tenykia (Ebony) Melton-Woods of Houston, TX, LaDonna (Robert) Stallings of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, JoeAnna Mouton and Sandra (Leroy) Scott of New Iberia, LA and Angela Berard of Carollton, TX; step-children, Jermaine Johnson of New Orleans, LA,  Melinda Portalis of Houston, TX, Shermika (Lemelle) Tatum, of Kansas City, MO, Marquita (Percy) Baytop of New Iberia, LA; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
