Corinne Lopez Maynez, 88, lifelong resident of Las Cruces went home into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 22, 1926 to Felipe and Pauline Lopez. Corinne was very well known in the Mesilla Valley as the owner and operator of Maynez Flowers and Gift Shop. She had also been the Chief Deputy at the Doña Ana County Clerk's Office, the secretary for the base commander at White Sand Missile Range, as well as the secretary, bookkeeper for the firm of Drs.' Evans, Maddox and Harris. Corinne served as President of the Cactus Club and was a member of Casa de Alabanza; the 45'ers Club; New Mexico Retired Teachers Association and Women's Aglow.
While at Las Cruces Union High School she met the love of her life, Ruben J. Maynez. They were married in Las Cruces, January 5, 1950. They had been married for 61 years until his death in 2011.
After raising her five children and at the age of 60 she went back to college to complete her teaching degree and also her Masters Degree. She Loved and Proudly taught Bilingual Kindergarten; First and Second Grades at several Elementary Schools in the Gadsden Independent School District.
She not only enjoyed teaching but spending time with her grandchildren and family as well as reading her Bible; teaching Vacation Bible School; leading women's Bible studies; helping with Children's Church; gardening and witnessing the love of Jesus Christ her Savior.
Survivors include her three sons, Ronnie Maynez; Ruben Philip Maynez (Traci) all of Las Cruces and Roland Maynez (Ray Chance) of Palm Springs, CA; one daughter, Lorraine Wagner (Richard) also of Las Cruces; one brother, Leo Lopez (Carmen) of Phoenix, AZ. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special nephew and God son, Arnold Diaz. Corinne was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Magistrate Judge Ruben J. Maynez; daughter, Jackie Maynez-Rios; granddaughter, Patricia Barrone; three sisters, Mary Vieira; Pauline Diaz and Margaret Marrufo; and three brothers, Lambert; Felipe and Charlie Lopez.
Visitation for Mrs. Maynez will begin at 6 PM Monday, August 24, 2015 at, Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 Locust Street with a Celebration of Her Life scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 Locust Street with Pastors Jorge Leyton and Richard Wagner officiating. Concluding the Funeral Service, Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Serving as casket bearers will be her granddaughters, April Magallanes; Angelica Wagner; Antoinette Cisneros; Jessica Rios McCollam; Christina Maynez; Gabriela Cisneros; Rebekah Maynez; nieces Michelle Allen and Katrina Castillo. Honorary casket bearers are "All" Her "Favorites!"
