Not sure what to say?

I took classes from Professor Hale what seems like a lifetime ago-because it was-long enough ago that some still called him Corwin, not Corky. For a man who taught about cultural relativity, he was a supremely and consistently grounded, moral guy. His classes never failed to entertain as well as educate, and he had some sixth sense for when to wake up the sleepy student with some extravagance like acting out a ritual or "brachiating" across the room. He was a serious educator with a keen...

I took his Anthropology course in 1977 and to this day, still remember and quote things he taught. One was "There are no absolute truths." But this one, he was an inspiring professor.

I went back to school in my 30´s and started at HACC one of my courses was Corwin´s anthropology class. I loved that class I learned so much and he made it so interesting. Anyone who said they were going to go to HACC I suggested taking his class. Of all my classes I had taken there I remembered only he and one other professor.

To Corwin´s family, please accept my sincere condolences. I attended HACC shortly after graduating from high school in 1967. When Corwin began teaching there, I took a history class taught by him. He was one of the best teachers that I ever had. He encouraged me to attend Western Michigan University, his alma mater, where I majored in history. After receiving a master´s degree I worked at the Texas State Archives, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Pittsburgh, in positions...

Dearest Mary Ellen and family. We are so deeply sorry for your loss. He was and will continue to be loved. Mary and Charley Hockenberry

Corwin was a one in a million human. He changed lives as a professor.. He will be missed. I am sorry for his families loss.

Professor Corwin Hale was a dear friend, a gifted teacher and scholar, a devoted father and husband, an enthusiastic adventurer in every sense of the word. A founding member of the Honors Program faculty at Harrisburg Area Community College, his history and anthropology classes were among the first to enroll. Corwin´s detailed field trips to major archeological sites throughout Mexico, taught us all much about Mayan and Aztec cultures. Our deepest condolences to his wife Mary Ellen, his...

My memories of Corwin (Corky) Hale date back to our first grade year when we became great friends. He was always curious, mischievous, energetic and kind. There´s no end of stories about our escapades as kids. Always fun times and thankfully no one ever got hurt. I´ve read all of the condolence messages on this site and I´m not surprised that his students were so happy to have had him in their lives. I´m also delighted to have had him in mine. I know Corwin was a committed teacher and...
