Foster-Warne Funeral Home - Collingswood Obituary

Craig Tahamont of Collingswood, NJ died on July 11, 2023 at age 71.

He was born on June 28, 1952 in Bath, ME to David and Margaret Tahamont. Throughout Craig’s youth, the family moved around the country before settling in Paulsboro, NJ. He was a proud graduate of Paulsboro High School, where his participation on the football and wrestling teams had a lasting impact on his life. He earned a bachelor's degree in History and Anthropology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.

He spent the majority of his career as a systems’ analyst, a profession that channeled his keen intellect while fueling a wider array of interests and pursuits. He loved music, was a voracious reader (and dedicated patron of the Collingswood Public Library), and enjoyed riding his bike. He loved annual trips to hike portions of the Appalachian Trail. He was a long-time volunteer with Meals on Wheels and coached for Collingswood Youth Wrestling for many years. Of the myriad things that brought him joy in his life, he was most fulfilled spending time with family and friends. In turn, those who had the privilege of his company found that good conversation and joie de vivre reached grand heights in his proximity.

Craig was married to his wife, and one true love, Maria (nee Giovannitti) for 47 years. He was incredibly proud of his two children, Sarah (Michael Bond) and David (Michelle) and two grandsons, Miles Tahamont-Bond and Darryl Tahamont. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: David (Theresa) Tahamont, Bruce Tahamont, Elise (Bill) Sochacki, and Carol Streeper. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Albert Streeper. He particularly relished his role as an uncle to Noreen, Nugufti, Celeste, Emily, Anne, and the Con along with too many Giovannitti nieces and nephews to count.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Paulsboro Wrestling Association, P.O. Box 98, Gibbstown, NJ 08027, the Collingswood Wrestling Association c/o Terry Moody, 11 Crestmont Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108, or Meals on Wheels by visiting www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org

A celebration of Craig’s life will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2023 12 Noon to 3 PM at the Collingswood Community Center, 30 West Collings Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108.  Speakers will begin at 2 PM.  The abounding fond memories of many loved ones tell of a special life, one well-lived.

Dear Maria, Elise, and everyone in the Tahamont and Giovannitti families,

Corey and I would like to express our deepest sympathy to all of you. We have known Craig for more than 40 years. We used to work at the bank for many years together. Elise worked there too. We had so much fun working at the bank together. Craig will be deeply missed by many for years to come. May the many fond memories you have help you get through this most difficult and sad time. Sending hugs and prayers....
