On Thursday, July 30, 2020, the Lord called home our beloved father, husband, grandfather and friend, Elder Curtis Lamar Fort. He made his departure from the Lewis Gale Medical Center CICU Unit.
Curtis was born on June 24, 1959 in Gainesville, Florida to the late Gladys and George Fort. He was a man of triumph and integrity. He loved his family, serving the Lord and preaching the Gospel. He was a graduate of East side High School. He later continued his education at Florida State University. He was a Drum Major. Later in life, he attended Richmond Virginia Seminary and received his Bachelors Degree and Master’s Degree in Biblical Theology. Curtis loved preaching the word of God to anyone he came in contact with and was a mighty man of triumph and integrity. During his later years, he gave his life to the Lord at JLAL where he served until his death. He was brought to the church by the late Lindsey Williams and Elizabeth Williams. Curtis served in the United States Army for 45 years as a SP4 Chemical Specialist.
During the time he served in the church, he became a Deacon, and was promoted several times from Minister to Elder. Curtis also served as the Armor Bearer to the Bishop from the inception of the church until his death. He served in many areas of the church including, head of Baptism and head of the Usher Board. He was the founder of The Mighty Men of Triumph and Integrity group. He also played drums for the church. Those left to cherish his memory include devoted wife of 16 years, Kathleen Fort, children, Lamar Fort, Tamara Fort, Callien Fort, Arielle Middleton, Tamiko Fort, Anthony Bonds, Natasha Bonds and Nathan Bonds, brothers and sisters, Stacey (Gerrie) Fort, Michael Fort, Neil McCloud, Sandra (Deon) Young and LaSandra, 11 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. My heart goes out to Curtis Fort's family and friends. Through my many years in the army, I can truly say that Curtis will be one of the few people that made an everlasting impression on me. He was kind, had a wonderful attitude, and put a smile on the face of everyone in that room.

SPC Fort was such an inspiration. He was always smiling and encouraged his fellow Soldiers. His positivity was contagious and he just always made you feel happy. He will be missed greatly and I’m so thankful to have gotten to know him and serve with him. Rest In Peace, you are home with the Lord smiling down on us all now.
