Brooklawn Funeral Home - Rocky Hill Obituary

Curtiss (Curt) Clemens, Sr., 77, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, with his loving wife Patricia and three sons by his side.

In addition to his wife Patricia (McVane), he is survived by his children, Curt Jr. and his wife Michele, Brian and his wife Sabrina, and Adam and his wife Katherine, his brother Scott, and his grandchildren, Brent, Jordan, Caitlin, and Carter.

Curt and Patricia shared over 30 years of marriage and loved spending time together on the Connecticut shoreline and in Florida.  An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing for many years at the Black Hall Club in Old Lyme, where he proudly served as treasurer and president, and most recently at The Legacy in Florida.

Curt honorably served in the U.S. Navy Reserves while attending Southern Connecticut State University.  He served two years of active duty on the USS Charles H. Roan, and during his time in the Navy, Curt earned the rank of PN2.  Upon his return from overseas, Curt resumed his education at the University of New Haven, graduating Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  In 1979 he earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut.

Curt’s true passion was real estate.  For over 40 years, he had the pleasure of listing and selling properties throughout Connecticut.  In 1994, he and his son, Curt Jr.  started Century 21 Clemens & Sons Realty – now Century 21 Clemens Group.  In 2001, his youngest son Adam joined the firm and for nearly 30 years, the family business flourished and Curt’s legacy in the real estate industry will live on.  Curt’s accolades from the real estate industry are prestigious and run the span of his career.  He has received numerous local and national awards, including being inducted into the Century 21 Masters Hall of Fame and the Century 21 Honor Society.

Curt dedicated a great deal of his time to his local communities, serving on numerous boards and committees, most notably as the president of the Hartford and Rocky Hill Boards of Education.  He was a firefighter with the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Rocky Hill Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Rocky Hill Economic & Development Commission, and the Executive Board of Directors at the Connecticut Sports Management Group.  Professionally, Curt was extraordinarily involved in the real estate industry both locally and nationally, serving on the Board of Directors for The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors, The Connecticut Association of Realtors, the Multiple Listing Service of Hartford, as president of the Connecticut Multiple Listing Service, and as president of the Century 21 National Brokers Council.

Curt was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a well-respected member of his local and business communities.  He loved his wife’s cooking, fine wines, rescue dog Bailey, reading, and a good cigar.  He was happy to hold court at home, at the office, and his golf clubs.  His larger-than-life personality and quick wit will be missed by many.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT.  Services will be private at the convenience of his family.  Memorial donations in Curt’s memory may be made to the Nutmeg State Games, 975 Middle Street, Unit G, Middletown, CT 06457. Not sure what to say?

A cousin who I did not know, never met in person, and with whom I only shared Christmas cards with for a few years after we got in touch about family history. But one thing I do know - he was deeply loved by his grandmother (my great-aunt) Catharina Elizabeth Smith Curtiss (1909-1999). I only recently heard of Curtiss' passing from our cousin Bill Curtiss, and after reading the obituary, I am saddened that we did not meet up in this life. May you rest in peace, Curtiss.

Dear Adam and family, I'm saddened to hear of the death f your father. He built a business that served his town well, and provided a fine role model for you. I'm sure he was proud of the success you have made of your life.

Patty, So sorry to hear of Curt's passing. Please know that you and your family are in our hearts and prayers.

I just learned of Curt’s passing today and wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to his sons, and dear wife Pat.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Clemens family. I knew and worked with Curt as a member of the CENTURY 21 Marketing team. He was always a "go to" guy to get direct and honest business advice. Whenever my team was struggling with something, one of us would eventually say, "Let's call Curt...he'll give us good insight." More important, he was a "go to" guy to hang out with during conferences as he was so genuine and fun. We had many "Oh yeah, top this..." golf conversations. Curt was a true...

My deepest condolences to Adam, and his brothers and entire family. May Mr. Clemens rest peacefully.

Terribly saddened to hear of Curt's passing. Curt was well known in the real estate industry and a trendsetter. My deepest condolences to all of his family.

Pat and Family - so sorry to hear of your loss, thought and prayers are with you, Curt will be missed.
