CYNTHIA J. MORE-MCCORMICK – OBITUARY

Cynthia J. More-McCormick, 58, of Newport, VT and beloved wife of Eugene McCormick, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 13th, 2017 at her home.

She was born on August 19th, 1958 in Plainfield, NJ. She was the beloved daughter of Charles More and Joan Seguine LeVine. Cynthia married Eugene McCormick on August 10, 2013.

Cynthia graduated from the University of Vermont and during this time, developed a love for Vermont that never faded. After graduation, she worked for the forest service and traveled around the world, but returned to Vermont and settled in the Green Mountains. Cynthia had boundless energy and channeled that into organizing events for her family and for the communities that she was a part of. She is most known for her work in co-founding the Newport VT Jazz Festival with her husband Gene.   If you wanted to find Cynthia, you just needed to look outside whether it was in her lush and vibrant gardens that she took immense pride in, sailing across Vermont lakes, cross country skiing or walking in the mountains or on a tennis court. She also took great joy in teaching, directing this energy as a ski instructor at Killington and then Jay Peak resorts.

Cynthia was a lifelong learner and loved to read. She turned this passion into a career both at Inner Traditions in Rochester, VT and most recently as the Director of Foreign Rights for Sound True Publishing Company.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, her mother Joan Seguine LeVine and her stepfather, Newton LeVine of Milford, NJ; her father, Charles “Charlie” More and his wife, Pennie More of Westport, CT; her older brother Charles “Chuck” More of Philadelphia, PA and his children Meredith More and Charles “Chip” More and his wife, Jessica More along with their son Henry More, all of Philadelphia, PA: her younger brother Christopher More and his wife Lisa More of Wilmington, DE and their two daughters, Sarah More and Alyssa More; and her stepbrother Myshkin LeVine of New Jersey.

Cynthia is also survived by the loving family of her husband Gene; his children, Lt. Col. Raheem McCormick and his wife Marshai of Washington, D.C.; Major Malikah Morgan and her husband Jason; Paul McCormick and his wife Eva of Jacksonville, FL; Ernest EuGene McCormick and his wife of Syracuse, NY; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

There will be two memorial services held, one in Newport, VT and one in Wilmington, DE. Details for both services will be announced shortly.
