Cyril was a good as gets in the industry. Enjoyed my few meetings with him at Bikeweek and Biketoberfest, however the best was with Cyril and Vince (Nobody) Doll at the Art of the Chopper display in Ocala...Cyril's Custom Motorcycle BLOG is missed by many and was a daily read for me. We , my Daughter and I met Cyril in Daytona Beach at the Rats Hole Bikeshow during Biketoberfest. When we ask if we Could take his picture , he responded by saying , certainly let go to my motorcycle. While most would say please don't touch , Cyril told my Daughter to please sit on it Little lady. We have a picture we will forever cherish. What a great artist and wonderful soul Cyril was. Cyril led the cyber motorcycle world. We didn't know how grave his condition. He worked at his craft until the very end. The empty platform has not been filled, nor will it be. There was only one Cyril Huze.

We can`t believe Cyril will not be with us in life any more. With deepest salute and good memory, we look to a great artist and performer in the motorcycle industry. Cyril was one of our first business contacts in the US. Based on our frames, he created beautiful custombikes, which are unique in elegance and design. With him, we are loosing a true friend, mentor and trend-setter of its day. We thank him for his open-hearted conversations, inspiring advices and amusing stays. So many good memories cherish our thoughts and are hold forever in our hearts.
Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends.

Cyril Huze refused to categorize choppers by tire width, fender length, or paint job. Neither were frame geometry nor type of suspension useful criteria. Thats the long and short of it; and he was inflexible. In fact, Cyril believed all attempts to typify choppers, including adherence to dubiously traditional values, are pointless because chopperness, as he called, is an expression of an artists subjective choices about how to combine, or exclude, all of those factors and many others to create endless variations. Artists are free to define their own work, while audiences are free to accept or reject itor to ignore it. Irrespective of quality, a motorcycle is a chopper if its builder says it is. Cyril certainly knew how to say it is.
Cyril said his choppers have a feminine side, paradoxical for machines that often convey a puissance associated with masculinity. He explains this by invoking conventional wisdom about French versus American culture. His credo was characterized by nuanced refinements of style rather than machismo, more Mingus than Metallica. Its not that men feel less virile riding his choppers, for virility to a Frenchman is a product of elegance, not brutishness. Anyway, you never say any skulls, flames, or Maltese crosses on a Huze chopper.
Cyril motivated himself by visiting museums. He didnt look at motorcycle magazines because, he said, I am petrified so many things have been done. He didnt want to copy. The creative process, then, began with preliminary design drawings before any fabrication got done. He sketched the profiles of a motorcycle and its four oblique perspectives: front and back, left and right. He often invented a fanciful theme to work with and gave each bike a name accordingly. Im very romantic about motorcycles, he said.
When Cyril first came to America, in 1978, as a tourist to Chicago, one of the first things he saw was a gum-chewing traffic cop wearing blue helmet and sitting on a Harley. It was a cinematic moment, Cyril thought. Years later he recounted, My job is to write the storyboard of the motorcycle, in the manner of a movie director. For me creativity is to make two parts that have never met look good together.
When he was twenty-one and still living in Paris, Cyril bought his first motorcycle. It was a blue Electra Glide that he had fallen for in the ardently passionate manner of a European. Years later, he chucked a successful advertising career and emigrated to New York, to follow his abiding dream of building custom motorcycles in America. He became a U.S. citizen and, eventually, set up shop in Boca Raton.
Cyril relied on his marketing acumen to rummage through the minds of clients to find the motorcycles of their dreams. Then he built what their imaginations revealed. On his Web site, Cyril offered twelve points representing his philosophy about bespoke motorcycles. The final one is: A good designer is not the one who takes you from what you have to what you want, but the one who takes you from what you want to what you didnt even know you wanted.
