Not sure what to say?

Cy was such a great teacher. He opened my ears to the world of poetry. I had the pleasure of being an editor of the MCC Post and throughly enjoyed all aspects of journalism. Cy was so supportive and knowledgable. He is one of my favorite teachers. My condolences to his family.

Cy Leder made a profound impact on my life. I attended MCC in 1970-71, and served as the editor of the College Clamor. He was unique (and I mean that in the nicest way). As my journalism prof he emphasized the essential elements of a story -- ESPECIALLY the lead. To this day I can not write a story without laboring over the first sentence. As advisor to the paper, he was gracious and supportive, through some pretty tumultous times on college campuses. I will never forget the man with the...

I can hear Cy's voice as I read these tributes. It brings a smile to my lips.

I was a journalism and poetry student of Cy's. As a teacher he inspired an appreciation of language as well as enlightenment as to the power of the written word. I could not have asked for a better instructor.

Cy’s writing was like his personality: honest, direct and AP style. You didn’t have to wonder where you stood with him. And if you did wonder, you could just ask him. He didn’t mind telling you....

Tonight I pulled my bound collections of the 1985/86 and 1986/87 MCC Post from my bookshelf and relived my days of glory as a feature and entertainment editor. Although I have not seen Cy Leder in 20 years, his name has made its way into my conversations frequently over the past two decades. What wasn’t to talk about? His Jersey phrases that betrayed his practiced Midwestern accent; his ever-present pipe which he kept in his mouth on his way to class; his full but gray mad scientist mop of...

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Leder's passing. To say that I was fortunate to have had Mr. Leder for English 101, journalism, and the journalism practicum class is an understatement. I can still hear him saying, "When am I gonna getcha to realize..." and "I'll killya!" (If you wrote for the MCC Post, you know that's meant in the best of all possible ways. Oh, he would also kill me for using parentheses because "you're whispering to them.") We all learned valuable lessons in his corner...

I met Cy back in 1992 when he did a review about my restaurant in Linden, Michigan. Since then I have seen him in other restaurants that I have either owned or managed, and everytime he gave us a review, we always had a very good boost in business. I have always enjoyed cooking something for him to try because he was never afraid to taste something different. And because of him and his wonderful reviews, I would not have had the success or recognition in this area. Cy you will dearly be...

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Leder, a favorite instructor of mine.

I was editor of the MCC Post in 1991, and I learned so much from his journalism, practicum and English courses, and just from talking with him, too.

Our practicum class was small and met in his corner office, where he played classical music and had a nice window view -- and we knew that we could stop by anytime and he would help us with a homework assignment, or some writing for the Post. I...

I was so sorry to hear of Cy's passing. He was always a pleasure to talk to and always had a recommendation for a good place to eat. He was always such a joy and so easy to get along with. Our prayers are with you.
