D'Are "Doc" R. Mullet, a.k.a. Dr. Blues, died in his home on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Born April 25, 1950, the adopted son of Albert and Adeline Mullet, Doc grew up in Superior, NE, and graduated from Doane College. Doc loved Lincoln, and spent his life cheering for the Husker Football and Women's Volleyball teams. Doc loved hot sauce and Heineken, football, and cats. He was an advocate for mental health and addiction causes, as well as the environment and the humane treatment of animals. A Blues Man, Doc's greatest accomplishments included playing and singing in Midwest Projection, The Blues Cruisers, Blues Party, and Bad Moon Rising, as well as drumming with Magic Slim, Charlie Musselwhite, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Jimmy Thackery, Tommy Castro, Tad Benoit, Larry Garner, Chubby Carrier, The Dynatones, Luther Dickinson, The Beat Daddys, The Jerry Forney Band, The Buddy Holley Tribute Band, Baby Jason, "Honeyboy" Turner, Sean Benjamin, Todd Sharpeville, Kris Lager, Nick Holt, Albert Cummings, and Too Slim and the Tail Draggers. Doc is survived by his daughter, Medea (Scott) Saunders and grand-daughter, Aenea; son Jason Hermann; and son Bryce Mullet; his ex-wife and friend, Dee (Schmidt) Mullet; his aunt Betty Mullet; cousins Margaret Mullet, Mark Mullet, Rita Mullet Dr. Wendall Bouman; and three kitties. Doc was preceded in death by his parents. A party/wake will be held in Doc's honor at The Zoo Bar on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment services will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, NE. Memorials should be sent to the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, NE.
