Not sure what to say?

My sympathy is extended to your family. Dr. Garland married my parents at Baring Cross Baptist Church on September 5, 1952. Almost 52 years later, both of them passed away this June, three weeks apart. At Mom's funeral, Bro. Steven Tiner said that there's no way Dr. Garland could have known how true the words "the two shall become one flesh" would be for Mom and Dad. Our family was surprised to then see his obituary in the NLR Times so soon after their deaths. I'm sure they are all rejoicing...

Dr. Garland was one of my two favorite professors at Southwestern Seminary. He was not only an outstanding scholar and teacher, he was a truly gracious gentleman. While I can't remember all of the content of his teaching, I will never forget the lessons I learned from observing the way he taught and lived. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Please accept our deepest sympathy at this time of your great loss. We shall always remember Dr. Garland as our very favorite pastor at Baring Cross Baptist Church in North Little Rock, AR. We truly loved you all and have absolutely the fondest memories of your time here with us.

MY FATHER IN LAW WAS THE BEST FATHER IN-LAW ANY ONE COULD EVER ASK FOR. I AM SO SAD THAT HE IS NOT IN OUR LIVES ANY LONGER. I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET HIM AS LONG AS I LIVE. I AM SO SAD THAT HE WILL NOT BE HERE TO SEE GRAYSON GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. HE WAS SUCH A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON MY SONS LIFE WE WILL BE LOST WITHOUT HIM.

PAPA I LOVE YOU AND WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH.

I was so sad to hear of Dr. Garland's passing. He was always such a kind, considerate and thoughtful man to both me and my mother, Elaine Phillips, during his time at Oak Grove, even though we were no longer members there. He was a real pastor at heart, and we could use more men of God just like him. He had the true "touch of humanity" that we all need so much. He will be missed.
