Dale Morgan "Bub" Bookwalter
November 22, 1952 – February 10, 2025

Dale Morgan Bookwalter, affectionately known as “Bub,” of Avon, IN passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 72 in his home surrounded by his closest family. Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandad, brother, and friend, and he leaves behind a legacy of hard work and helping others.

Dale was born on November 22, 1952, to John William Bookwalter II and Elaine Morgan Bookwalter, both of whom preceded him in death. A graduate of Butler University, Dale became a CPA and worked diligently throughout his career, retiring as the Vice President of Finance at Oregon Freeze Dry.

Dale was a passionate runner who completed multiple marathons, a race fan who always looked forward to Indy 500 weekend, an avid reader, and a lover of aviation. He also loved the simple pleasures in life—nothing brought him more joy than going for a run and mowing the lawn on a sunny day.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda, and his five children and stepchildren: Lisa Bookwalter-Turner (Clem), Joseph Bookwalter, Samuel Bookwalter (Matt), Chelsea Meldrum (Chris), and Seth Meldrum, as well as seven grandchildren: Jacob, Lane, Henry, Molly, Charles, Bodhi, and Daisy. He is also survived by his three brothers, Dr. John William Bookwalter III (Donna), Timothy Bookwalter (Tami), and Dr. Matthew Bookwalter, family member Connie Bookwalter, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was also preceded in death by his cats, Otis and Amos.

A private service to celebrate Dale’s life will be held with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dale’s honor to Philomath Youth Activities Club, Philomath, OR or Joy’s House, Indianapolis, IN.

Dale will be remembered for his kind heart, quick witted comments, and his ability to get things done. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
