Not sure what to say?

I just read that Dale passed away. I remember him as a very nice man and I'm thankful for the time I had with the Carlsson family (1974). My condolences to you all.

My thoughts are with the extended Carlson family as you mourn the loss of Dale. Dale made a lasting mark on the engineering community, and was such a supportive father and grandfather to his family. I am sure the strong ideals, values, and intellectual curiousity of Dale's children and grandchildren are in large part due to his influence. I know he will be greatly missed.

When I joined the CEE faculty in 1988, I heard many good things about Dale from other colleagues, especially about his academic and personal integrity--wonderful stories, and all 100% true. Later as a CEE faculty rep on the Valle Committee, I worked directly with Dale for several years reviewing Scandinavian applications and encouraging our students to take advantage of that wonderful program. Because I also spoke some Swedish, we always enjoyed exchanging a few phrases and expressions. He...

Dale gave me the opportunity to enter the Environmental Science and Engineering program at the UW in 1971 changing our families life for the better. Dale had a global view of the world promoting international exchanges and combining various engineering and science fields to solve difficult problems. I consider him to be a giant on whose shoulders many were able to stand.

Dale was such a positive spirit, great professor, and leader. when I first joined UW faculty, I was so proud to be part of it because of Dale. what a good man and what a good life he had. I am lucky to have know Dale and have him as a friend. My condolences to family and that was so valuable to him.

As the current director of the Valle Scholarship and Scandinavian Exchange program at UW I can say that Dale has left a lasting legacy with this program he worked so hard to create and maintain. It has helped over 750 graduate students since Dale began it. We (I was a Valle scholar in 1998) are all so grateful for his giving spirit and hope to keep it going on into the future.

What a wonderful man! We knew one another through the University District Rotary Club where we always sat together at Friday lunches and joked about his Swedish origin and my Norwegian. Thank you, Dale, for your gifts of knowledge and humor.

Ed I read the obits and when I saw this picture I thought of you since I think that you and Daie look a lot alike. It sounds like Dale had a long and fruitful life. I am sorry for your loss. I hope that some time we can see each other again. We will be in Tucson from the 13th to the 23rd, Email address is [email protected]. Frank

So sorry to learn of Dale's death. Kermit, especially, and I enjoyed our times together with him and Jean. My deep condolences.
