We were just starting to get along again when Jim passed away on July 26 his birthday, just a couple weeks ago. I tried to get in touch with you two and shocked to hear about Dale. Mr. Gotta made me go out for cross country my freshman year 1970 Downers Grove South best advice I ever got! I went on to be MVP at Downers South for cross country 3 years conference champion State qualifier state record holder in the marathon! Mr. Dale Gott was one of the most important individuals I 've ever had the pleasure of knowing in my life. I just learned about Coach Gott's passing at the Sportsmanship basketball dinner in Schererville. Coach Gott was my basketball coach in Munster Middle School in 1974. My teammates and I absolutely loved this man. His passion for the game and for us brought out the best in us and showed us how living a life to the best of our ability was the right way to live. Dale Gott was the best mentor and role model I could have had in my early days of teaching and coaching. He was the ideal teacher on the court and the most supportive coach in the classroom. Who can forget his algebra mantra: "undo, keep balance"? That phrase has now been passed on to several generations of mathematics teachers thanks to Dale's influence on me.

Dale Gott had the rare talent of making a guy like me, who believed I had virtually no athletic ability, feel capable of being a champion.
It was no coincidence that, as a result of his coaching, I experienced what I consider one of the truly unexpected series of victories in my life.
Mr. Gott's focused approach to improving my performance stayed with me through College, MBA School, Law School, running my own firm, and ultimately, raising my kids.
