Dear Ruth and Family, Only recently did I learn of Dale's passing, and I write to convey my sincere sympathy for the loss of the central figure in your lives. I will remember Dale as a quiet, unassuming, good man who was a professional, unselfish public servant and role model. He generously allowed me to share space (where there was none) in the U.S. Senate Refugee Subcommittee office where I learned of his compassion, talent and perseverance on behalf of anonymous refugees half a world away....

Consummate professional, dedicated humanitarian and thoughtful colleague during all the years we were worked together in Senator Kennedy’s office. His legacy truly rests on the lives he saved.

Dag Hammarskjöld, the Swedish economist and United Nations diplomat once said,
“One who gives help to another in need affirms his humanity”.

As we celebrate Dale deHaan on this beautiful day, let’s honor his fifty years of humanitarian service for the US Senate and United Nations. Let’s celebrate, his joie de vivre, his love of food and wine, his globetrotting journeys and the awesome stories he told.
