Gilbertson Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Stanwood Obituary

Dale Victor Johnson passed from this life to be with Christ on July 24, 2016. Dale will be remembered by all those who knew him as a wonderfully gracious man who dearly loved his wife and family and was a friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

A native of the northwest, Dale attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. He met his wife, Virginia, at First Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon. They lived in Oregon until they moved to Camano Island, Washington in 2001. Dale worked at NW Natural Gas in Portland for over 30 years in personnel and then public relations. He was very active in the Portland community, serving in leadership roles in a number of organizations such as United Way, The Red Cross and the Portland Chamber of Commerce. He also worked for many years with the Portland Rose Festival Association, eventually serving as President in 1986.

Dale was an extremely creative person and an avid gardener. He spent many happy hours working in their lovely yards in Tigard, Oregon and on Camano Island. He also loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many fascinating places around the world. He loved his pets, especially his cat, Bentley.

He was an active member of First Baptist church in Portland, Oregon and St. Aidan's Episcopal church on Camano Island, Washington

Dale was preceded In death by his wife, Virginia, in 2002. He leaves behind his sister, Patricia Boehr and brother-in-law, Irwin Boehr, his three sons, Jeff, Bret and Kirk, daughter-in-law, Susie, granddaughter Hailey Burgess, her husband Michael Burgess and their 9-month old son, Jonathan. Dale's visits with little Jonathan brought him much joy and laughter and we are so grateful they got to know each other.

The family would like to especially acknowledge the compassionate care given to Dad by Brookdale Senior Living, Skagit Valley Hospital, Josephine's Stanwood and his dear friend, Evelyn Hall.

A memorial service will be held at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church on Camano Island on Saturday, August 27 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Dale requested donations be made to St. Aidan's.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear about Dales passing. Dale and my deceased husband, Allan Patchett were good friends growing up. We enjoyed spending time, with he and his wife, in Oregon as well as Camano Island. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Donna Patchett

Our family was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dale Johnson. We have many fond memories of visiting Dale and Virginia on Bull Mtn. and appreciating Dale's masterful work in the yard. Dale often contributed his creative gifts while a member of First Baptist Church, and we specifically remember his work on the Christmas decorations in the sanctuary. FBC is a place where the ties that bind are not forgotten, and both Dale and Virginia are engraved in the memory book we collectively...
