Dale Evan Morton 81, of Dallas, Texas passed away on Saturday September 29, 2018 at his home at Windsor Senior Living.

Dale was born in Wadsworth, Ohio to Robert and Ester (Cleveland) Morton on September 11, 1937. His mother passed away in 1946. In 1948 Robert married Oleafa Shuman and Dale's family grew. Dale's new siblings include Fred, Debbie, David and Janette. Soon after the marriage, Dale was blessed with a younger sister Cheryl Morton. Dale married his high school sweetheart, Mara Smitchens, and they had three children, Paul, Marcy and Mark. After Mara passed away, Dale married Linda Simms and gained three step children, Kate, Doug and Matt.

Dale's passion was his work whether it was teaching physics and calculus at Webb School or working on optical coating at a variety of businesses. Some exciting projects he worked on included Texas Instrument's first filmless camera, coating the panels on the Voyager II, coating binocular lenses and army tank windows to protect our soldiers and much more. Dale enjoyed talking about his work and assisting others in learning to operate the optical coating machines. While Dale worked at a number of different companies, he wrapped up his professional work at Denton Vacuum. During his career he accomplished two patents for his optical coating machine, the Engineering Excellence Award from the Optical Society of America in 2001 and he wrote or edited multiple chapters in calculus and physics school books.

When Dale was not working he enjoyed camping, fishing, playing a variety of games (a favorite being Mahjong), singing in the King of Glory choir, and traveling the world. As a graduate of Ohio State University, he was an avid fan and loved cheering on the Buckeyes. An especially memorable time was watching the Ohio State Football team win the National Championship in 2014 with all three of his children.

Dale is survived by his wife Linda Morton, siblings: Fred (Luann) Shuman, Janette (Paul) Schaible, Debbie (Elaine) Smith, David (Sharon) Shuman and Cheryl Morton. Children: Paul (Michelle) Morton, Marcy (Terry) Davis and Mark (Sophie) Morton, his step-children Kate (Scott) Simms, Doug Simms and Matt (Courtney) Simms, his grandchildren Megan (Josh) Winjum, Holly Davis, Ana Davis, Malcolm Morton, Anabelle Morton, Anna Simms and his great granddaughter Evelynn Davis.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 3rd at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. Memorials may be directed to King of Glory Music Ministry (6411 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, TX 75240) or Webb School of Claremont, CA to the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology (1175 W.
