Before handing down a sentence or presiding over an inmate's first appearance, Judge Dale Smith would give the accused something to chew on. He'd reach into his stash of Tootsie Rolls and hand one over. Read the news obituary.

Not sure what to say?

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

I just happened to be in Atlanta last week and picked up a copy of the AJC and saw the notice. Three of us were roomates [Manuel Pena, Mahi Majanovic, Miguel Alphonso] were roommates at UGA with Dale. Alot of good memories of Dale. He definitely touched alot of lives! 58 years old was too soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dale's honesty and kindness will truly be missed and cherished by all who knew him. "May the God of peace be with you all," during this difficult time. Romans 15:33

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Dale was a friend at WRHS and at Middle Georgia college. I hate that we lost touch with each other.

Dale was many things to all of us at 327 S. Milledge in Athens - friend, mentor, teacher, but most importantly Brother. His spirit, sense of responsibility and purpose helped many of us determine what paths our lives would eventually take. His contribution and concern for others I'm sure helped him as he administered the law. His kind manner will be missed, but we are better for having had him in our lives. Prayers for comfort in the days ahead to you Lynne, Jared, and family.

To the Family of Dale P. Smith:

In this difficult time in your lives, may you find comfort in God's Word, the Bible. James 4:8 encourages; "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you."

My condolences,
SJB.

Heartfelt sympathy goes to the Smith family and many friends. I will truly miss Dale as my attorney, friend, and an incredible person. Thank you for all your help! We are better persons by having known you, Dale.

My condolences to Smith family, I know how you feel I lost my mother and it hurts. God is a refuge to us a strength during distresses. Psalms 46:1
