Not sure what to say?

I graduated Electrical Engineering in 1987. Professor Archdeacon was one of my favorite math teachers for sure! Very clever and witty guy who knew how to make complex math fun.

We are so sad to hear Dan had passed away. We remember those days when Dan and Nick stayed here, and the enjoyable dinner at a restaurant together with Mara and Talis. Dan was so kind and warm-hearted, always encouraged our students and gave good advice. We would like to thank him and send our sincere condolences to Mara, Talis and Nick.

A sad news of professor Dan Archdeacon passing away has reached our department. I remember first meeting him at a SIAM DM conference in Victoria, where he chaired the afternoon graph theory session, in a lecture room with no AC. He opened the session with "We have the proof that Graph Theory is the hottest topics in discrete math!" This cheer and optimism did not leave him in his recent visit to Maribor, where he was eager to combine the joy of math with the vistas over the ski slopes of...

Mara, Talis, and Nick,
We send our condolences from over the years and miles. We have very happy memories of our times together in Vermont, and hold you in our hearts.

Mara, Deborah and I are absolutely stunned by news of Dan's death. Our love to you and the boys. I know it was a full life filled with love and laughter, but too short. Hold each other as we'll hold you in our thoughts.

Nick,

I was saddened to learn that your dad passed away. I remember him as a caring father with a fine sense of humor- he made me laugh! I want you to know that you have been in my thoughts. I am sending a hug to you.

I was in high school when Dan and my brother, Jeff Dinitz, were roommates in graduate school at Ohio State. I was a pretty cool high school kid driving up to campus to go to their parties and hang out with them. Dan was a very fun person and he will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies to you, Mara.

Dear Mara,
I am so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. He was a remarkable person and a terrific colleague. I always felt that being on the same university campus as Dan was an honor -- he added luster to an already fine institution. We are all sorry to lose him. Marge Lipson

Professor Archdeacon loved cracking jokes just as much as he loved teaching Math. He was the reason I decided to major in Mathematics.
