Dan Barki

I was in Peace Corp teaining with Dan almost 60 years ago. He stood out; he had a big personality and he was lots of fun. Sweet memories.

Out of the blue I received an email from Dan only a few months before his passing. He was looking for my new mailing address as he wanted belatedly to send me one of his famous holiday cards. For some odd reason I recently decided to "Google" him and discovered he had passed away a year ago. Such sad news. People's comments about Dan were so on point and brought a smile to my face. I had the good fortune of sharing an office with him for several years. He made an often tedious day...

Dan was the first person I met when I moved into the building in 2004 and the friendliest. As my "parking neighbor", he was immediately welcoming, friendly, and helpful and I have appreciated his friendship ever since. He was good at smoothing things over and making peace when neighbors had conflicts. Our current HOA president cited Dan as the community leader he aspires to be. Dan lived life to the hilt, as is so evident from this excellent account. As one of his many cousins, I was lucky enough to grow up knowing and admiring him and, being several years his junior, being influenced by him. To Margalit & Dalia and their families, and to Beryl Voss, I send my deepest sympathy to you all and was glad that I could visit with all of you last month. Dan's commitment to the FSM and his ongoing love of life have always been an inspiration to me. It meant a lot to meet up with all of my cousins and their families to talk about our lives with Dan.
