Not sure what to say?

Hello Carole We met when our husbands wer in rehab at the VA Hospital. I am sorry of just now finding about your loss. I lost my husband, Bob, last December. I´d love that see you if you ever get down to Tucson. Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Carole: I just found out about Dan's passing -- I am SO SORRY. Many times I wanted to reach out and now it is too late. Dan will always occupy a very special place in my heart and mind. He opened up completely new worlds for me. What an amazing man. I wish you lots of strength in these difficult times. Warmest wishes, Jan (U Albany 1996, then UNC with Tom R - that path was charted over dinner at your house)

Dan was a model professor at UNC School of Public Health, revered as a classroom teacher and also willing to meet informally with any student interested in learning from him. In my own teaching, I referred students to his Blog after making sure they read "Public Health as Social Justice." His views about the ethical foundations of public health have helped shaped my thinking and that of many other students. His legacy will remain endure. Carol Runyan, Emeritus Professor, UNC

Dan and I started at UNC within a year of one another. We spent nearly thirty years keeping our department on an even keel. Dan, you will be missed.

Dear Carol, my friend. Keeping you in the light. Dan was very fortunate to have such a dedicated family and caretaker. I was glad to visit wih you and Dan to talk about the old days at DOH and describe to him the department's new way of electronic dissemination of information and reporting. He was amazed... and felt then he really understood. Miss you and love you. Rest up. Hugs. Jules
