DR. DAN KAHLER

Dr. K will always be an inspiration to any aspiring educational leader. Even though I am now retired, I often think of his inspiring and relentlessly positive message that everyone is valuable; no one should be denied his/her dreams; there is nothing that a great educator cannot accomplish. Long live Dan Kahler.

We recently attended the 1972 Friday Gathering and Saturday Reunion. Missed seeing and hearing Dr. Kahler. We live close to Oak Park and I think of him each time I turn onto Dan Kahler Way.

Dr. Kahler was my inspiration. He hired me fresh out of the University of Missouri College of Education. I had heard so many accolades to Dr. K that I knew the only place I wanted to teach was at Oak Park HS. Sadly, before I could actually be mentored by Dr. Kahler, I was drafted to serve in SE Asia. I have never met anyone who was more engaged and energized by our profession than Dr. K. A truly great man. He lives on in our memories.

In going through my old recommendation letters, I found the one from Dan Kahler. There could be no higher form of praise than a letter written by him, dated Sept. 10, 1992. Even though it is over 20 years old, i'll take it to my interview tomorrow. Wish me luck Dan!
