Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Sioux Falls Obituary

Daniel Mattison passed away peacefully on November 6th with his wife and sister by his side.

Dan, the youngest of four children was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 22, 1960 to Robert and Delpha (Holland) Mattison.  Dan attended Garfield Elementary, Edison Middle School and Washington High School, graduating in 1978.  He attended the University of South Dakota. Dan worked for several years at the Crow Bar in Sioux Falls. In 2000, he joined the logistics firm of Martin Trans-logics and was employed there until his passing.

In March 1995, he met the love of his life.  Dan married Cathi Rausch on September 21, 1996. Dan and Cathi spent many happy years together and they were everything to each other. Dan and Cathi traveled whenever they had the chance.  Their favorite places to visit were Arizona and the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Dan’s love of music took them to many concerts across the Midwest. He loved all sports, but, mostly his Minnesota Vikings.  SKOL!

Family was everything to Dan.  His family includes his wife, Cathi, his much-loved stepchildren, Chris, and Liz Hage.  His father, Robert Mattison and his three sisters, Faye Mattison, Kristi (William) Schmidley and Lee Ann Mattison (Glen Monzo), as well as two nephews and three nieces. Dan is also survived by brother-in-law David (Karen) Rausch and mother-in-law Marjorie Rausch.  He  had a special relationship with Chris’s fiancé, Caitlin Schneider and Liz’s boyfriend, Greg Noethlich.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Delpha Mattison.

Dan’s cancer diagnosis was devastating news to him and his family, but he fought it with grace and strength.   Most recently he and Cathi spent time with family in the Black Hills and Nisswa, Minnesota.  He was humbled by the outpouring of love from family and friends, and the medical team that cared for him.  Dan will be remembered by everyone for his kindness, his positive attitude and that smile he had for everyone.

We thank you for keeping us close to your hearts and we will always be grateful for the life of our sweet Dan.  We prayed for a miracle but realized the miracle was the years we had with him.  As Dan always said to his wife, “try not to worry”.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

Dan's memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  Family will be present one hour prior to Dan's service for visitation.  Private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service.

My condolences to all family, and friends of Dan. I hadn’t seen him since high school days. I lived a couple blocks away, and I have memories of music about him- wasn’t he really into Steely Dan back then....? He was a nice guy and had a great smile. Very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to see this, Cathi! Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Cathi - We are saddened by the news of Dan's passing. He was as nice of a guy as one could hope to meet. Smart too....he chose you to share his life with!

Dan was always the life of the party at the Merrill Lynch Christmas parties. He will be greatly missed and leave a lot of fond memories.
