Sutton, NH-Dana Flewelling, 59, of Newbury Rd. died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born on May 9, 1958 to Mark and Beverly Flewelling, he grew up in Goshen, NH. Dana graduated from Newport High School and then began a life-time career in printing, graphic design and photography. Dana worked for several local companies and also ran his own business; Dana Flewelling Graphic Design and Photography for many years.

Music was Dana's passion. Receiving his first set of drums as a child, Dana, along with his brothers, formed a band and began performing at local functions. He was the drummer in numerous bands over his lifetime: Great Legs, Night Kitchen, Sweet Roy Jones, Mo'Combo and Soulfix to name a few. He was the "Kevin Bacon" of the area music scene, having played with so many musicians over his forty-five years of drumming. He knew everyone and everyone knew him.

Dana met his wife Beth (Hoyt) in high school jazz band and they built a home and life together in Sutton NH. Committed to his family and friends, he enjoyed helping those that he cared about using his many talents. Dana enjoyed traveling, fly fishing, photography and his '68 Ford Mustang.

Dana is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Aaron Flewelling of North Sutton, NH; father, Mark Flewelling of North Port, Fl.; twin brother, Dale Flewelling, younger brother, Mark (Skeet) Flewelling, both of Newport, NH; sister, Linda Bitzer of Laconia, NH; nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Beverly Pevine Flewelling.

He found great joy in the love and support of his extended family: Kristin (Putnam), Ben and Jake Prime; Bruce and Darsie Putnam; Lisa Hess; Kaitlyn Covel and her family, Bernice Perry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TLC Family Resource Center, 109 Pleasant St., Claremont, NH 03743.

A celebration of Dana's life will be held on October 29, at 1 PM at the Center at Eastman, 6 Clubhouse Lane, Grantham. After the service, friends are invited to continue the celebration with music, remembrances, stories and friendship.

Not sure what to say?

This morning on the way in to work, for the some reason I thought of Dana. I hadn't thought of him in 40 years. My parents bought my first drum set from him because they knew I wanted to drum like him. They surprised me with it and I played that old Rogers set every spare minute I had. I first saw Dana play in the NHS Jazz Band. He did things that seemed impossible! I saw him on the Track Field Long Jump. It was like he would just explode off the line and soar through the air! From his...

Wow, I had no idea! I just went to look up his contact information to give to someone who was looking for a graphic designer. My heart hurts for his family. I worked with Dana who did free lance work as a photographer and graphic designer for me for many, many years. A GREAT MAN, who loved his family (he spoke so much about them on our trips to the north country for photo shoots that I feel like i know them.) I'm in shock. I'm so sorry to read this news.

Beth, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for taking precious time to see us for Ellie's services.

Beth, Aaron, Kristin, and family-
Thank you for allowing me the sacred honor of caring for Dana during his time of greatest need. My heart is broken for your loss. Please know I am here for you and you are in my heart.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dana. My deepest sympathies to Beth, and to the rest of his family. I didn't know Dana very well, as he was a couple of years ahead of me in school. But I was very aware of his drumming at the time, first seeing him in a jazz band at the town hall while we were in high school. He wouldn't have know this, but he was my first inspiration for drumming, in a jazz style I knew nothing about, but learned to play much later. He was so natural at it, and that show is one...

Dana has been a central ingredient in my professional life for well over a decade. He was my creative collaborator. He got what I was saying even when I wasn't saying it right. When I had to work with another designer it was like writing with my left hand. And I would think, "God, where's Dana this guy just doesn't get it." It is very hard to 'break in' a designer. So I didn't. I took Dana to every job I had. And he would always keep the account after I left. One time he said business was...

Ohhh Dana...there's such a void in our world now without your smile, kind heart and laugh. I will always be so grateful for your drop everything attitude to help out when my desperate last minute calls would come for your amazing talents. You had a wonderful ability to create on paper what I could only see in my head. I'd give anything for just another creative meeting with you and Peter Cole, or a golf cart drive around Newport's back nine shooting photos for Valleys golf tourney. But...

Beth, I am so sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathies.
