June 23, 2025 We remember the passing of DR. DANA B. HAMEL today and his innovative foundation of the Virginia Community College System. Thomas Jefferson wanted every Virginian to be able to continue their education within an hour of their home. That was the Mission Statement of creating 23 Community Colleges in Virginia. Dr. Hamel brought TJ's vision into reality. Dr. Hamel was a great mentor of mine, who helped guide my career in education. God Bless. B.

I Just learned of Dr. Hamel's passing. He was a great man and I feel blessed to have known him during my time as a supporter of education reform in Metro Richmond. I remember his vision for the advancement of technical and vocational education in Virginia.
