Deer Hunter With a Heart
Dana Hannon lived to hunt. While his family knew he would always be there for them, they knew better than to ask favors on the first day of hunting seasons for deer, ducks and geese.

So it is no surprise that he knew how to track down a quarry. Maybe that explains why he waited until he got to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia to propose to Allison Dansen. He smuggled the ring on a string around his neck. They were to be married next fall.

Dana Hannon, 29, wanted to be a firefighter for almost as long as he wanted to hunt. After high school, he worked as a carpenter to support himself while he served as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown, Wyckoff, N.J., where he rose to the rank of captain. He got his first paying job as a firefighter in Bridgeport, Conn., where he was awarded the medal of valor for a rescue. Seven years after taking the exam, he joined the Fire Department of New York. He was with Engine Company 26.

"He was the best brother anybody could ask for," said his sister, Kyle. "Just the right mix of friend and tormentor."

Not sure what to say?

I happened to see Dana’s name on a list of the fallen and knew exactly who he was. He was a year ahead of me but shared the same bus stop in high school. Always one of the nicest guys. I was not popular but that did not matter to him. He treated me as if that had no bearing at all. I had always wondered about him throughout the years and I now know. It’s been 22 years but I am still so so sorry for your loss. Dana was one of the good ones. My deepest condolences

Praying for the Hannon family today.

I had the honor of researching the bravery and sacrifice of Dana Hannon before chaperoning a field trip to the 9/11 Memorial. Since the attacks 18 years ago, I pray for the families and survivors whenever I pass a clock that says 9:11. Since learning of Danas ultimate sacrifice, I add his parents, family and friends to my prayers for peace and comfort. Much love to you all.

My condolences & prayers go out to Danas family.

Visiting NYC next month and going to visit 911 memorial i shall be looking to pay my respect to this brave young man RIP

It was a privilege to honor Danas memory. I am grateful for his service and sacrifice.

I ran 90 flights of stairs last year in honor of Dana and his courage.

Our local firefighters had a tribute last year. They ran in full gear. I was given Danas name and as a civilian I ran in honor of his courage and sacrifice.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Danas family and friends. Ive had a memorial bracelet with his name on it for 17 years and pray for Dana and those he loved.

Thank you for your courage, your service and your sacrifice. May God bless you family with peace and comfort. You are remembered and honored.
