Not sure what to say?

Mr. Cavoli, For what ever reason, I woke up this morning and your image and name came into my dream and mind. It has been years since I remember you bouncing around in your classroom at the end of the fifth floor hall of St. Ignatius High School hours after school had ended. Me and Derryl trying not to scare you at 7pm when we came to clean up after the students. What a joy it was to talk with you, who just started teaching the young minds of St. Iggy. I am so sad that when I searched your...

Dan and I worked together on the Holy Cross Senior play Guys and Dolls. By the time I got to know Dan, I became Dan wanted to become his own version of Mr. Chips. Although Peter O'Otoole was a hard act to follow, it looks like Dan flew by and then. Its wonderful to see how much Dan was appciated and loved.

Incredible guy who I was glad to know for a short while thru a wilderness retreat at Ignatius ~1997. The best energy... which he shared graciously. A real inspiration. Prayers... and THANK YOU to all supporting his legacy!

Dan introduced me, and countless others, to backpacking. Ever since his high school backpacking retreats at Ignatius, I have made backpacking a regular part of my life. I have hiked hundred of miles, over mountains and glaciers, in multiple countries, because of him. He gave me an appreciation for the wilderness, and the recognition of our impact on nature. He was an inspiration. Whenever I picture Dan, he has a big smile, which was usually the result of making someone happy. Even as I...

Dan´s passing is such a loss, he will be missed by so many! My thoughts are with all of you.

My deepest condolences to all of Daniel´s family. Godspeed to Dan and prayers that the pain of his passing soon changes to a fond memory of the joy he brought to so many others.

Dan was in my Latin classes at St. Ignatius, a true scholar and genuine nice guy. Edward Sullivan

Dan Cavoli was one of those rare people who come through our lives and inspire all they touch! I met Dan as a Freshman at St Ignatius in 1972 and we shared playing violin and singing in choir. I´ll always remember marveling at Dan from the pit orchestra as he was the most engaging King of Siam in "The King and I". Our paths intersected again as my son John loved Dan´s passionate teaching of Latin and Greek at St Eds. It was inspiring to watch Dan transform his students with his love of the...

Dan lived next door in Alumni Hall during our sophomore year at Holy Cross. In reading all the comments about Dan so many memories came back. First thought when I met Dan was what the heck is a classics major? I realize now how his knowledge of the classics and Latin have been passed onto so many of his students. Dan was always the most compassionate and thoughtful person, often asking how can I help if there was ever a problem. His constant frenzied state I now appreciate was a reflection of...
