What a passing! When I heard of Dan’s death I cried. I can hardly imagine a world without the indomitable spirit of Dan Connaughton.

I had the good fortune of meeting him in the early 1970’s through our mutual interest in handball.

Dan was an incredibly gifted athlete from his early days. He was an exceptionally good handball player, singles and doubles.

Dan was exceedingly smart, a gifted...

Peaceful Reflections

Dan was my best friend through grade school, college and grad school. We were inseparable during that time. Dan was a terrific athlete in all sports and played on the Loyola national champion basketball team. We went our separate ways after graduate school. He will be missed by his family and friends. May you rest in peace Dan.

So sorry to hear of Dan's passing. My deepest sympathy to all his family. Dan was a good man. Janet Cox

Dan was (like Jim) a character and true Irishman. He was a great friend and he and "Coondog" are probably together in Heaven! Love, Holly Cooney

Although we never got the chance to meet Dan, from everything I am reading he sounds like he was a wonderful person. Our hearts go out to the family with love. Denise and Kevin Wolfe

Many happy memories of the wonderful Connaughton family growing up the street on East Fairway Drive. Dan and Martha, Christie, Danny and Mary were a great part of the neighborhood! Big Dan always wore a huge smile and had a great sense of humor. Claire Palatchi Peasley

In January 1964 when I was on my way to a semester at Loyola University Chicago's Rome Center, my dad arranged for me to meet the President of Loyola University (previously President of XU), and I stayed the night with Dan in his dorm room at Loyola, during a period that had to be one of the happiest times of his life...as a proud member of the Loyola Ramblers basketball team which the year before had won the national championship defeating some team from Cincinnati, Ohio. Dan was a gracious...

I met Dan in the 70's when we were both members of the Hamilton Midtown Optimist Club. I praised Dan once for the outstanding respect for law program he conducted. I asked him after an outstanding speech and presentation he made "Dan how do you do that without a written speech." I have remembered all these years his response. He replied "Ken never give a speech or presentation on a subject you are not familiar with. If you try to bluff your way through, the audience will immediatly know it."...
