BOLTON

Daniel A. Deufel, 67, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 31 years, Anne E. (Gillette) Deufel; three children: John Deufel, James Deufel, and Katherine Deufel; three grandchildren: Cassandra Deufel, Piper Deufel, and Chloe Deufel; 2 siblings: Cathy Conte and Karen Rogers and their children Steven Conte, David Conte, and Penny Rogers; nieces and nephews.

Daniel was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Pennsauken NJ, son of the late Harry F. and Margaret (Walton) Deufel.  He was a graduate of Pennsauken High School, and attended Drexel University. He had been a resident of Bolton since 1982.

For many years, he worked as a computer hardware engineer, retiring from CyGlass in July, 2019. He left college to work for Digital when college ran out of computer classes and worked as a corporate level engineer solving problems and interfacing with customers worldwide. As he put it, “I get paid to play with other people’s toys.” and he did so for many years.

Daniel had a great love of children and leading them to Christ. He did everything from nursery at church, Sunday School Superintendent for pre-school, Christian Service Brigade leader for older boys/young men and volunteered at Brigade associated camps as food services director and head cook and everything else in between over many years.

He attended the Ev. Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton.  He enjoyed reading science fiction, playing bridge, but most of all rebuilding Mac’s to donate to those who needed a computer.

Burial in South Cemetery, Bolton, is private.  For those who wish, the Deufel family suggests that memorial donations be made to Ev. Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 Chace St., Clinton, MA 01510. Arrangements are in the care of McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton.  To share a memory of Daniel, or offer condolences to his family, please sign the Guest Book.

Not sure what to say?

In the late 70's, I shared an office with Dan. We each had our own offices but we took down the walls one night to create a larger space that we shared. The times we worked together in that group at Digital provided some of my best memories from over the years.

I was lucky enough to work with Dan at Digital Equipment Corporation in Marlboro in the late 70s. I remember his humor, meticulous work ethic, and love of music. At a DECUS conference in Nashville in the late 80s we ran into each other and he invited me along to a concert - Simon Preston playing an inaugural concert on a newly commissioned pipe organ at a local church. It was sublime. Thank you for that unexpected and lovely experience, Dan.
