I first came to know Dan in 1993 when he commented on my use of the term "test equating". This topic remained Dan's favourite over the years. In his last email on December 14, 2011 Dan reiterated that, "I'm a good person to pay attention to equating though; god knows I've done a lot of it. I'll equate "into the sunset". My deepest sympathy to Linda. May your memories bring you comfort.

Dan was a wonderful person. He combined humility with professional excellence. Several years ago, he consulted for SLTI as a member of a team that reviewed the equating procedures used at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. He was always thoughtful and reasonable. It was always a pleasure to see him and Linda at conferences and meetings. My deepest sympathy to Linda over her loss.

I formally met Dan approximately 25 years ago as a member of the ETS College Board Nuts softball team. We had a great team and he was a great guy.

It is extremely sad to hear Dan has passd away. He was a giant in his field, such a kind and lovable giant. With his dceep insight he was able to weigh contentious matters appropriately and see the relative value of diffrent pints of view. I will miss his quiet wisdom and frinedship and realize how much heavier this will be for his family. I wish you strength. You have great memories to to support you.
