Jack was a mentor in my life and I never told Him. His character and adventures set him aside from most of the men who I have met. In him, I saw strenght, directness and self-assureness.
He welcomed me into his house and into his family when I was just starting to become a man and I quickly learned what it meant to be a man who lived on his own terms. I was aware of the love and respect that his family had for him and the love that he had for them.

Jack was an instrumental and influential contact for me when I started covering Boeing for AvWeek in 1993. He also became a friend. My condolences on his sudden passing.

Like the pebble droppped into the pond, he made happy ripples.

Abraham Lincoln said that God must have loved the common man, for he made so many of them. About the 2nd or third time I saw my father on the evening news with Rather or Brokaw, I began to realize that he was not a common man. In fact he was a unique individual, with great dignity and compassion for those less privileged. As the years went on, I began to understand that he wasn't larger than life, but instead, his humanity was the element which made him so special. Our family has lost someone...
