Daniel Filius

Boy, did I love talking to Dan. Seems like every memorable conversation happened on those picture perfect days in Pentwater when the water was warm and the sun was on full blast. Occasionally, some detail from when he was a submarine pilot would slip out and I'd grab on to those and force more details out of him. He will be missed.

We will certainly miss Dan. He was always finding fun things to do and see the humor around was so sweet. I teased him about all his Ducks!

Mrs. Filius and Family, I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. It is Track and Field season, so my trips to Coopersville to help with track meets cause me to pause and think about all the ways Dan helped me while the athletic director at CHS. Things I do today to help out at the track are things he taught me, all the little things that no one notices, unless they weren't dealt with; behind the scenes things. Teri and Andy, I am so sorry to hear of Dan's death. I had seen him recently, several times walking the circuit at Walker Ice and Fitness. He always had a smile. I will never forget his sense of humor. For example, one Halloween at school, he disguised himself as an older man and told his students he was their substitute teacher. They fell for it and gave us all a much needed laugh. May other cherished memories fill your hearts and bring some comfort.

Mr. Filius was an amazing teacher and mentor. We need more teachers like him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Ellen and I met Dan in Pentwater in 2018. Dan was always kind, very warm, smiling and made you feel like you were always a best friend. We will miss our sunsets at the beach together and we will always remember him with love.
