Mr. Daniel Lee Flohr, 57, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a 10-month illness. Born August 10, 1953 in Frederick, he was the son of Marie Wolfe Flohr, near Mt. Pleasant and the late Edgar Flohr. He was the husband of Shirley Robinson Flohr, his wife of 22 years. Mr. Flohr was a 1971 graduate of Walkersville High School and then attended Salisbury State College. He was of the Methodist faith and was a self-employed master carpenter. He was an honorary life member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 282 of Woodsboro where he dedicated much of his time. In his younger years he was a talented athlete, particularly in soccer and baseball. He was an avid Ravens fan, enjoyed playing golf and was a former champion of the Schwan Open. He was a devoted patriot and was proud of his grandson who is currently serving in the Marine Corps. The family extends a special thank you for the care provided in his final days by the 4th Floor, G Wing staff at Frederick Memorial Hospital. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Shafer and companion Mark Wachter of Johnsville; 2 grandchildren, Deverule and Ashley Shafer; 3 sisters, Helen Kennedy and husband Bill of Myrtle Beach, SC; Rochelle Hopkinson and husband Terry of Sharpsburg; Connie Flohr and companion Melanie Holt , near Mt. Pleasant and his faithful companion Nick. He will also be missed by his four-legged friends, Reggie, Chloe and Maggie. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, at the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post, 101 W. Elizabeth St. Woodsboro, with Rev. Ernest Thayil, pastor of Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, near Libertytown. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 8 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro where the American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be John Shriver, Steve Blank, Dwight Reynolds, Dave Crouse, Kevin Hassett and Charles Barthlow, Jr. Honorary bearers will be Dick Hall, Tom Lake, Gary Delbrook, Dave Boller, Bradley Grimes, Rodney Duvall, Brian Armacost and Deverule Shafer.
