He was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Shipshewana to Sylvester and Hilda (Bontrager) Haarer.
On June 9, 1962, he married Twyla Mae Kauffman at 8th Street Mennonite Church, Goshen. She died Dec. 26, 2016.

I send my condolences to the family while you mourn and yet rejoice that Dan is now with his heavenly Father. Dan ably directed the activities of The Window while I was President of The Window Board of Church Women United. He was such a caring, careful and thoughtful person showing love and respect to those in need psychologically, spiritually, physically and financially. He was a great fit for The Window and its programs.
