Daniel Duane (DJ) Hiebert, 42, of Kelso, died April 1, 2004, in a house fire in Kelso. He was born October 15, 1961, in Walla Walla, Washington, to Joy and Dan Hiebert. He attended Kelso-Longview Seventh-Day Adventist School and Columbia Academy in Battleground. As a young man he began working as an apprentice for his father in the property rental business. He was the maintenance supervisor responsible for over 250 apartment and house rentals. At the age of 18 he began purchasing rental properties in the local area. He was the owner of DJ Rentals, comprising some 55 houses and apartment units. In his early days, DJ enjoyed snow skiing, hiking, backpacking and camping, playing with snakes, after he overcame his fear of them, and just helping out the family (particularly his aunts) whenever possible. His passions were fishing for sturgeon and salmon on the Columbia River with his cousins Troy and Dylan Booth, and his good friend, Dennis Wendell and
for smelt at Auntie's property on the Cowlitz River. He made many trips to Canada and Montana, bagging bear, elk and cougar and anything else that got in his way.
DJ enjoyed taking his second wife's son, Matt Rae 17, with him on many of his hunting and fishing adventures.
He loved Longview and Kelso and the Pacific Northwest in general for the many outdoor opportunities.
DJ's dog,
"Stranded", was without a doubt, man's best friend.
He enjoyed his many trips to Arizona to visit his nieces, Danielle, Alyssa, Erin, and nephew, Matthew (Buddy), sisters, Twila and Natalie Hiebert and mother, Joy Hiebert.
For many years, he also sponsored a child through Children's International and made many donations to the Salvation Army.

Hiebert. Aunts and extended family include Charlotte Oakes, Joyce Schaper and Marguerite Bennett, all of Kelso, Washington, Dianne Biles of
Brookdale, California and Marie and Luther Johansen of Portland, Oregon
and Robert Foster.
