Tempe Mortuary - Tempe Obituary

Dan Hjalmarson of Aztec, New Mexico passed from this life on June 17, 2018 at the age of 57. Dan was born in Phoenix, Arizona on September 21, 1960 to Hjalmar (Win) and Patricia Hjalmarson. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia and his nephew Ryan Kittredge. Dan is survived by his loving family, wife of 30 years Beth, children Garth, Kelsey, and Mike, father Hjalmar, sister Mary Kittredge (Patrick), and brother Joel (Yuka), as well as many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was a proud graduate of Northern Arizona University and worked 9 years with Allied Signal in Tempe and 23 years with the Williams Companies in Washington and New Mexico as a Controls Technician. He was forever a 70’s guy. He loved classic rock, Neil Young and Tom Petty in particular. He liked working on and driving seventies era cars. Dan rode dirt bikes and enjoyed being out in the desert or up in the mountains. He enjoyed a sly prank and a good-natured ribbing. Dan was very self-sufficient. He could fix just about anything. If he couldn’t do it “correctly”, he certainly could “Norwegian it”. He was a quiet man, with a great sense of humor. Dan was a man cut from a different cloth whom we loved and admired for his individualism, his loyalty, his strength, and his unique way of looking at things. Dan’s greatest desire was to retire in Tempe to be closer to relatives. Dan will be missed. May he rest in peace.  Services will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 3201 S. Evergreen Rd., Tempe, Arizona 85282, Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00 in the morning. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Childhaven of Farmington, New Mexico, the Wounded Warrior Project or your favorite charity.  Arrangements entrusted to Tempe Mortuary.

Not sure what to say?

Miss you cousin, as often think of all the good times we had up at the cabin, our snow skiing trips, motorcycle riding, exploring, and more. Greatly missed.

You were always there for me Dan, through thick or thin... I will always cherish the memories of our life long friendship!

Dan will always be in our hearts. He was such a gentleman. I was shocked to hear of his passing. I saw him last Easter. He always called me Mrs. Mahoney, and he chuckled when I said, Dan, my mother-in-law was Mrs. Mahoney. He gave me a great hug which I will always cherish. My deepest sympathy to Beth and the children. What a lovely family. Dan will always be in my prayers and memories. Rest in peace, Dan. You will never be forgotten.

I remember Beth Howell very well at McClintock...though I did not know Dan, I truly believe that any man who Beth could love and cherish for 30 years was a great man indeed...may Dan's beloved family and friends find beauty in the smiles he doled out and in the memories they hold close to their hearts...my deepest condolences to Beth, Dan's children, family and friends!

So sad to hear. I worked with and supported Dan with Williams. I enjoyed many long conversations with him and enjoyed supporting him and his team with their telecom work. He will be missed.

worked with Dan @ Williams Co. also his uncle Larry both were great people Leon Spiller

I will always remember Dan fondly as he was so kind when we first moved out to Phoenix and he took Paul under his wing to show him some of his favorite camping spots in Arizona. Paul and I are both so glad that we were recently able to return and see him and spend a bit of time together. We did not know that we would not see one of our favorite in-law relatives again, in this life. We will surely think of him often, and enjoy the memory of his quiet but kind presence. I am so sorry for...

Dan, you were a great friend, in fact, one of my best friends, and one of my favorite people to hang out with. You are greatly missed!

Dan was a kind and good natured man whom I have had the good fortune of having in my life for the past 30 years. The depth of his loyalty and support for my sister and my family has been a treasure. We are all better for having a bit of Dan in our lives. You will be sorely missed by us all.
