Not sure what to say?

I was a student of Dan Kasten on 9/11/2001. He said something to me that day that I took to heart and have repeated many times. In times of tragedy and grief people have a choice to get harder or to get softer. They can become bitter or take the moment to understand the frailty of life and be kinder. I have always tried to live by that and be softer when those tough times come. I haven't always been able to but I try. I was reminded today, 23 years later, by my wife when she repeated...

Dan Kasten was a man with a beautiful soul. A man who touched so many lives with his kindness and grace. He will live on in the many lives he touched. My deepest sympathy to his loving family.

I remember the lovely time I had at my Junior Prom with my chivalrous, kind, and funny date, Dan Kasten. (not a bad dancer, either) So sorry Susan. I will try to call you, soon.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Dan's death, and we offer our heartfelt condolences. Dan touched so many lives. Ours were two of them.

I am so sad to learn this news. I extend my deepest condolences to Dan's family, and to his Greenhill family as well.

So saddened to hear of Dan's passing, but the pain is no longer.
I'll always remember the program you both gave in Aldersgate's class.
Peace be with your family. Claudia Miller

Dan Kasten was such a huge and important part of my time at Greenhill; he expanded my understanding of literature in the most valuable way. I extend my deepest condolences to his family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Kasten's passing. I had the pleasure of being in more than one of his classes in high school, and he was one of the select few teachers whom I visited after I'd graduated and moved away from Dallas. I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Dan is one of the most admired men I know. He was modest in spite of all the honor due him. We benefitted from his teaching at our Sunday School class. We will miss him! Bill and Joyce Boyer
