Daniel Kelly Obituary
Dr. Dan was born May 23, 1936, in Algona, Iowa. He was the eldest of three children born to Edward Daniel and Margaret (Mitchell) Kelly. Dan spent much of his childhood on Lake Okoboji where he developed his passion for water sports and his sailboat "Herself." He graduated from Emmetsburg High School, attended Notre Dame and later graduated from Creighton Medical School. Dan began his medical career in Emmetsburg, Iowa and later opened his own practice in Burnet, Texas. Dan was still practicing medicine in Houston, Texas until weeks before his death.
His family and service to his community were a top priority in his life. He married Karen Leitch in January, 1971 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together they had four children: three amazing daughters and a fourth who was fairly decent. Dan spent many of his later years inspiring people at the Men's Center in Houston, Texas.
Dan is pre-deceased by his parents and his brother John Edward Kelly. He is survived by: his sister, Margaret Ann"Peg" (Kelly) Baehr, her husband Mike Baehr; sister-in-law Betty (Kelly) Spies; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mike and Laura Pope of Chandler, TX, Peter and Meg Anderson of College Station, TX, Chad and Sarah Walsh of Fulshear, TX, Greg and Amy Schielack of College Station, TX; six grandchildren; many treasured nieces and nephews, and his companion Taxi Cat.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, TX 77401. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his honor at 10:00 am, Friday, November 30, 2012 at the All Saints Catholic Church, 215 E. 10th St., Houston, TX 77008, where he was a member. Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dr. Daniel Kelly's honor to The Men's Center, 3809 Main St, Houston, TX 77002.

I Had The Honor, Priveledge to Meet Dan Kelly And Become Close Friends With Him When He Lived In Portland,Maine . I Had Always Wanted A Navy Peacoat And Captains Hat & Shared That With Dan While He Lived In The Greater Portland,Maine Area. Dan Made My Wish Become A Reality . He Gave Me His Navy Peacoat, & Captains Hat When He Was A Sea Captain For The Argentina Navy In South America. i have that peacoat and captains hat still to this day. there's many more fond stories i could tell you all about Dan Kelly; but right now i need to keep this in perspective. i'm deeply saddened , balling my eyes out over the death and passing of my close friend Dan Kelly. . he was a man i looked up to, admired, cherished, and loved. he gave me inspiration, a message of hope, gave me a reason to live and more. i've lost a true friend. Dan if you're listening; thank you for everything you did for me.
