Daniel P. Kelly, 70 years formerly of Delaware and Swampscott died Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Quincy, the son of the late Philip T. and Mary C. (Monck) Kelly. He was raised in Swampscott and was a graduate of Swampscott High School class of 1958. He was a graduate of Bentley College and a graduate of Chamberlayne Junior College. He also graduate from a three year apprentice program with the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers # 7 Dan was a member of the Swampscott Lions Club for 28 years serving as an officer in many capacities. He was a charter member of the Swampscott Jaycees. Dan was a Public Works Commissioner for the Town of Swampscott elected for 18 years and a Town Meeting Member for multiple terms, serving on several town committees. Dan was associated with the Massachusetts Elevator Safety Association. He served on the Board of Directors and was the former chairman of the By-Laws Committee for the Elevator Safety Association. He was a member of the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce. Dan was a former member of the New England Steel Erectors Association and a member of their negotiating committee on two contracts. Dan was a Project Resident Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts working on projects in U Mass Boston, Salem State College, Westborough State Hospital, Wrentham State School, and Tewksbury State Hospital. He also assisted in the renovations of Cambridge District, Framingham and Marlborough District Courts. Dan was also a purchasing agent and assistant manager for the American Elevator Company. Dan was president of Kelly Construction Services, and Kelly Specialty Constructors. He owned Kelly Services of Swampscott; he would take over distressed companies and make them solvent, then turn them over to the previous or new management. Dan is survived by a son, Daniel P. Kelly, Jr. and his wife Carolynne of Newark, Delaware, three daughters, Kathleen Collins and her husband David of Burlington, Laura Kelly-LeBlanc of Lynn and her former husband Brian, Erin Groudas and her husband Peter of Plaistow, NH. He leaves 13 grandchildren, DJ, Michael, Ryan, Casey, Kelly, Lindsey, Mark, Zachary, Sabrina, Nathan, Georgia, Chloe, and Maia. He leaves his former wife Christine (Robertson) Gamble of Delaware, a brother, Leo F.D. Kelly, three sisters Christina Kelly, Patricia Macarelli and Elizabeth Larosee. He is the father of the late Dean Kelly. Dan's funeral will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 9:00 AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A) Lynn followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church Swampscott at 10:00 AM Burial in Swampscott Cemetery.
