DANIEL F. LIBRETTI, 43, of New York, a firefighter for the New York Fire Department, graduated from the New York Restaurant School in the mid-1990s and had a side job as an assistant pastry chef at a French restaurant in Manhattan. Fellow firefighters knew firsthand about his cooking skills. "He cooked us meals we couldn't afford on the outside. We couldn't even name them," said Peter Romeo, who wasn't on duty Sept. 11. Libretti also worked as a private contractor and was building a pond in his home's back yard. "The joke is, 'I wonder what career he's up to in heaven?'" said his wife, Dolores.

Not sure what to say?

To the Family of Mr. Libretti,

Yesterday (September 7, 2025), I was honored to climb 110 flights at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, home of the Ole Miss Rebels, with a photo of Daniel around my neck. As I reflect on the 25 years since your last moments with him, I write with tears in my eyes, remembering the sacrifice Daniel made on 9/11 and the profound loss your family has carried ever since.

Please know that on this day, Daniel’s courage was honored, his memory was lifted...

Good Evening Mr. Libretti, I had the honor of wearing your bade for our annual 9/11 memorial stair climb in Binghamton, NY. May you know that you to this day remain a strong, admirable & never forgotten piece of the fire service.

20 years of not seeing your face with a big smile. But my memories warm my heart.
You are so missed.. Until we meet again my love
Dee

20 years— can’t believe it you are always in our thoughts— continue to watch over us — we will never forget

At Lambeau field today, I participated in a stair climb for the fallen firefighters from 9-11. The hero I climbed for was Mr.Libretti. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Another year without you. Miss you always.

Danny, Danny. What a shock it was to see you listed in the casualties. I always said that I would have never made it through the training academy if you weren't seated next to me. When one of the guys (can't remember his name) messed with the women, you always stuck up for us. Your sense of humor helped so much & I thank you for that. I will always have great memories of you.

Daniel is from the other branch of the Libretti family on my mother's side. We thank him for his service, we remember his sacrifice and we pray for his soul. God bless!

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.
