Daniel McDade Obituary

Daniel McDade
PEORIA - Daniel James McDade, 96 years of age, quietly slipped away on Sunday, March 3, 2017. He spent most of his life in Peoria, Illinois, and then moved to Indianapolis in 2000, when he married Elizabeth "Betty" M. Crafton.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Loretta Cooney McDade; and three siblings, Loretta, Ruth and Joe.
Dan lost his first wife, Phyllis McVeitty, in the 1940s, and their two children, Danny and Bridget, in later years. In the 1960s, he met Anne Sutter Hillyer, who had been widowed with two children, Rick and Judy. They married and had three children, Jerome D. (Debbie) McDade, Thomas J. (Wendy) McDade and Patti McCartney. The McDade and Crafton families were neighbors, raising their children in Peoria, a friendship maintained for all their lives. Dan and Betty enjoyed 16 years of marriage at 670 E. 82nd Street, moving to Carmel Senior Living last March, following their annual winter season in Marco Island, FL.
Dan was a newspaper Pressman at the Peoria Journal Star, a U.S. Navy 1st Class Petty Officer and Naval Aviation Electrician during World War II, Insurance Broker and Security Salesman, he also achieved a Private Pilot's License and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.
Visitation for Dan will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, at St. Luke Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. All are invited to stay for a luncheon following Mass.

To the family of Dan. Bridgett was my best friend. We were ever so close to the moment of her death. I live in Naples and did not know Dan was ill. It makes my eyes leak. He was such a wonderful man and we had many joyous times together . I thought and wondered about Dan so many times. All of you have my deepest sympathy. I wish so much I could be there with you, but I'm in Naples. Please know Dan was always a wonderful dear, dear friend . Love to all of you . Suzanne Bogard

So sorry to hear of the passing of uncle Dan. My condolences to Betty and the family. Always admired Dan for somehow finding happiness with so many losses in his life. Although my aunt Phyllis died the year I was born and I never met her, I always considered Dan my uncle and part of the McVeitty family. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
