Daniel J. McDonald
Daniel J. McDonald, 69, of Oak Court, Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning, passed away on Saturday, July 16, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, having courageously battled cancer. He was the husband of Cathy M. (Slog) McDon-ald. They were married for 39 years. He had worked as a foreman for the former Bethlehem Mines, Coaldale, and operated his family's insurance office, The Lewis Insurance Agency, Lansford, until retiring in 2010.Born on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1947, in Coaldale, he was a son of the late George F. McDonald and Mary (Domin) McDonald.
He was a gentle soul who loved to enrich others' lives with fun and humor. He went by so many nicknames because he impacted so many people in different ways. He was Dan the Dart, Captain Dan, Fun Uncle Dan and Irish Dan.
If there was fun to be had in Lake Hauto, it was around his Irish Bar that forged friendships, honored Notre Dame and was always open to whoever needed him. Danny was blessed with a personality that people were drawn to; he was truly something different to everyone who knew him, but one thread tied it together ... we are all better for having known him.
Dan was a 1965 graduate of Marian Catholic High School and a graduate of the Bethlehem Business School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Catholic by faith, he was a member of Father Henry Baker Council No. 271, Knights of Columbus, Coaldale, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Carbon County Notre Dame Club.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife are three sisters, Marianne Frazier and Melanie B., wife of Steven Kling, both of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Colleen B. Gieniec of Ridgewood, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also predeceased by a brother, George D.

Danny, "Frosty" & Petie

Cathy and family,
Dan and I went through both St. Mary's and Marian High. Dan was a year behind me and lived only a block away. Dan, Angelo "Petie" Paul and I were always traveling companions going to grade school, high school, and football practice at St. Mary's School. We also shared many a laugh, a game of pinball, and a cold soda at Harold's Store on 4th St. It was my great please to have known both Dan and Petie. May they rest in peace. The attached picture was the result of a fun...

Cathy and McDonald Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and family members. I have all good memories of my Coaldale buddy and the fun times we had together. I am glad to have known Danny and he will be missed.
