At 6:00 am it hit me. Hit me two hours before the doctors even told us. Despite the valiant efforts of many doctors, surgeons and nurses over four days in two different hospitals, this was going to be your last day with us. My heart sank as I called your lifetime friend and best man Gene. Hearing the words come out of my mouth was surreal. Gene, Ellen and the kids rushed to the hospital to be by your side. One year ago today you gave us your last gift. As we walked down the hallway with the surgical team as they wheeled you into the operating room, I asked you to please show Meaghan and I that we are worth fighting for. Doctors asked us if we understood that this was life saving surgery and that you had very little chance of even making it through the surgery. Hours of waiting and praying. You made it through and gave us one more day with you, a day we desperately needed. You showed Meaghan and...

Last year today we thought you had turned the corner. Your fever broke and you had a great visit with EJ and Ronnie. Family came to visit, you felt better and you were in good spirits. We were so relieved and happy. Later that afternoon things had unfortunately changed. So sorry and sad . Love you and miss you, Gerri, Meaghan and Maddie. :'(
